Spiral Shell Pavilion

A biomimetic pavilion inspired by the spiral growth and structural geometry of a seashell.

Spiral Shell Pavilion explores biomimicry through the geometry and structural logic of the Florida Cerith sea snail. The shell’s natural spiral growth is translated into an architectural form that gradually wraps around itself, creating a semi-enclosed spatial experience. A triangulated modular system forms the pavilion’s outer envelope, drawing inspiration from microscopic shell patterns and naturally occurring surface formations. The density and orientation of these triangular components vary across the structure to control openness, enclosure, light and shadow. Parametric design methods were used to generate the overall spiral form and distribute the repeating modules across its curved surface. The project combines biological inspiration, computational design and modular construction to create a lightweight pavilion in which structure, pattern and spatial experience emerge from a unified geometric system.
